Q&A

What do you enjoy most about teaching?

I enjoy being able to see students have their “a ha” moments. There is nothing like doing an experiment and having the students make connections to what they have read about and what they have seen in the lab.

Why did you choose to teach at Morgan Park Academy?

I initially came to MPA in 2001 to teach summer school. I was lucky that a teaching position for computers opened up that fall and then even luckier that eventually an Upper School science teaching position opened up. With a degree in medical biology, I was thrilled to be able to employ my scientific skills and knowledge.

What motivated you to become a teacher?

My parents were teachers at the same school since they graduated from college. So, naturally, I thought I would never become a teacher! However, throughout my college career I was inspired by my advisor, who taught me in several anatomy classes. I was amazed at how he could make such difficult material so easy to understand. Many of his methods I employ in my own classroom today.
