B.A., Berklee College of Music
Why do you choose to teach at Morgan Park Academy?
I began guest teaching at MPA in the fall of 2012 and absolutely fell in love with the entire environment. The students are motivated, captivating, collaborative, and respectful. There is a genuine professional setting here that makes it an ideal institution to be a part of.
What is the most important life lesson you want students to learn in your class?
I hope they always remember to dream big! Be yourself and have confidence in yourself. There will be many bumps in the road, but if you stay true to what you believe in and put in the hard work, nothing can stop you. Embrace your unique individuality, set your sights high, and hone in on your craft. Remember to always be kind to others on your journey and give every living creature a smile.
What are some of your interests and hobbies?
I am a music enthusiast. Teaching, composing, collaborating, and performing are all a part of what makes me tick! I love many different genres of music. I am not biased to any particular style. If the music moves me in a certain way, I will listen more closely. Music always has something to say — whether it be the lyrics, the groove, the melody, the harmonies, the feel, the tempo, or the energy, my ears are always open.
I love attending live concerts too. It is an art to record music and put an album together, but it is another world pulling it off live. When the performance is executed with precision and energy, and the sound crew has their act together, and everyone is on the same page, magic can truly happen.
I am also a Chicago sports fanatic. Let’s go Bears, Cubs, Blackhawks, and Bulls! My parents encouraged and supported my love for music and sports as a child by dragging me around to every practice, game, lesson, and recital. Their patience has positively paid off!
