Girls Tennis Places 3rd at Sectionals


Varsity girls tennis tied for third at the sectional tournament on Oct. 15, 2021, with six Warriors competing in singles and doubles. Ayanna and Brooke teamed up to win the doubles championship, qualifying to return to the IHSA Class 1A state tournament for the third and second times, respectively. Celia, Jada, and the doubles team of Michaela and Madison also chipped in as the Warriors posted a strong showing at sectionals. MPA’s boys and girls tennis programs have sent players to the state tournament in 19 of the past 21 years, including 2009 and 2011 state singles champion Jerricka Boone.

Girls Tennis Comes Through at Sectionals


Varsity girls tennis wrapped up a shortened fall season last weekend at the IHSA sectional tournament, with six Warriors competing in singles and doubles. In singles play, Brooke won two matches before falling in the quarterfinals, while Ayanna got tripped up by a tough first-round matchup. Both girls qualified last year for the state tournament, which has been canceled this season. In doubles, the duo of Michaela and Taylor also won two matches to reach the quarterfinals, and Celia and Jada won one match. Nice work, Warriors!

But heading into her junior year at Morgan Park Academy (MPA), Anderson knew she needed to be on the tennis courts as much as possible. Girls Tennis Qualifies 2 for State Singles Tournament


Look who's going to state! MPA sophomores Ayanna King and Brooke Anderson both qualified for the Class 1A girls tennis state tournament with standout performances at IHSA sectionals on Oct. 18, 2019, finishing third and fourth, respectively, in singles play. Ayanna, who also reached state last year, compiled a 9-5 record as the Warriors’ No. 1 singles player this season; Brooke was 14-2 at No. 2 singles. MPA honored the best of the fall sports season with an awards banquet for Upper and Middle School teams on Oct. 30, 2018. Angela Cabrera, Brandon Chan, Samaria Harris, Zara Hashmi, Dillon Leonard, and Eli Moss were recognized as top players for Upper School golf, boys soccer, girls tennis, and girls volleyball. Tennis Trio Qualifies for State Tournament


It was a banner weekend for the MPA varsity girls tennis team, as freshman Ayanna King and the senior duo of Angela Cabrera and Zara Hashmi combined to finish second at IHSA sectionals Oct. 12-13, qualifying for the Class 1A state tournament.
