Award season continued to be kind to the MPA varsity basketball teams, as All-State players Kaitlyn Mullings and Sheridan Harris were named to the all-conference second team for 2019-2020 and Samaria Harris, Miles Beachum, and Logan Walton received honorable mention. Go Warriors!
Varsity boys basketball came up just short in the regional playoffs, losing a close game against Illinois Lutheran on Feb. 24 despite a strong second-half comeback. Good work this season, Warriors!

Senior point guard Elijah Moss went out strong, capping his MPA basketball career with high honors as one of five ISL players named to the all-conference first team. Moss averaged 20.1 points per game this season on 48 percent shooting, including 37 percent on 3-pointers. He led the Warriors to the IHSA Class 1A regional semifinals after taking them, in tandem with 2018 ISL Player of the Year Brent McKnight, to the regional final last season.
Morgan Park Academy honored the best of the 2018-2019 winter sports season with awards banquets for Upper School and Middle School basketball on Feb. 20 and 26. Senior all-conference selections Eli Moss and Amaya McLachlan were chosen by coaches as varsity MVPs, while Miles Beachum, Murphy Chen, Samaria Harris, Dion Madkins, Matthew McKnight, Kaitlyn Mullings, Madison Olimene, Tim Rooney, Emmanuel Sarpong, Hannah Schuman-Cook, Jalen Shelton, Logan Walton, and Oscar Zhang also received individual awards. Led by all-conference point guard Eli Moss, the MPA varsity boys basketball team won its playoff opener on Feb. 18, beating Foundations College Prep, 58-35, to advance to the Class 1A regional semifinals against Fenger. Game time for the semifinal is Feb. 19 at 7:00 p.m., again at St. Francis de Sales High School. Go Warriors!
Senior standouts Brent McKnight and Isis Rodriguez took home team MVP awards as we honored the best of the MPA winter sports season with awards banquets for varsity and middle school basketball on Feb. 26. Isis ended her high school career with 1,705 career points, including 569 this season — setting new program records with both marks — en route to becoming MPA’s first All-State player in seven years. As one of the oldest schools in Chicago, Morgan Park Academy is steeped in history, including a unique distinction as the first high school to participate in a basketball game. Now in 2018, the Academy celebrates the 125th anniversary of that historic first game, played on February 24, 1893, just fourteen months after James Naismith debuted the sport at Springfield (Mass.)
