Morgan Park Academy is thrilled to welcome acclaimed singer, songwriter, interior architectural designer, and businesswoman Tonya Kelly of the iconic, multi-platinum 1990s R&B group Jade for a special student engagement on Friday, February 6, 2026, at 1:30 p.m.
Kelly will meet with students to share her personal journey in the music and arts industry, offering insights into creative expression, navigating the entertainment business, and building a sustainable career as an entrepreneur.
Drawing from her experiences as a professional recording artist and business owner, Kelly will discuss the realities of the music industry, the importance of adaptability, and the value of leveraging artistic talent into long-term success. The afternoon event also will include a Meet & Greet opportunity for MPA parents and guardians. (Parents, please RSVP here.)
Coming to prominence as a member of Jade, the platinum-selling R&B group behind hits such as “Don’t Walk Away” and “Every Day of the Week,” Kelly has continued to evolve as an artist and entrepreneur. Her visit to Morgan Park Academy will give students a rare opportunity to learn directly from a creative professional who has successfully balanced artistry with business acumen.
“This experience will allow our students to hear firsthand from someone who has lived the creative process at the highest level,” said Head of School Phyllis Cavallone-Jurek, Ed.D. “Tonya’s story highlights the intersection of talent, hard work, and entrepreneurship — an important message for students exploring careers in the arts and beyond.”
Arts and drama teacher Erline Dorcy echoed that sentiment, emphasizing the value of real-world exposure. “Our students benefit greatly from hearing authentic stories about creative careers,” Dorcy said. “Tonya Kelly’s journey reinforces that artistic passion, when paired with discipline and business knowledge, can open doors far beyond the classroom.”
The visit aligns with Morgan Park Academy’s commitment to providing students with real-world learning opportunities and exposure to professionals across a wide range of fields. Through candid conversation and shared wisdom, Kelly aims to encourage students to pursue their passions while developing the skills needed to thrive in competitive industries.
Media members are welcome to attend the event to speak with Ms. Kelly and Morgan Park Academy students.
