Morgan Park Academy second-grade students recently created and presented Empowerment Projects designed to celebrate their unique gifts and encourage self-expression.

Throughout the year, students in Liz Raser and Angela Sly’s classrooms read books that highlight individuality, self-acceptance, and resilience — books that help children know and love themselves. As part of this ongoing work, students regularly practice identifying positive qualities about themselves.

For their projects, each student selected a format that best showcased their strengths and interests. They first shared their presentations with classmates before presenting them to families and administrators at the Empowerment Project Showcase on March 13, 2026.

As students learn about influential leaders and change-makers during Black History Month and Women’s History Month, the project helps reinforce an important message: they, too, have unique talents and the potential to become tomorrow’s leaders.
