Eighth-grader Wynston is one of 13 students in the state who were selected as Middle School finalists for their research projects at Illinois History Day in May 2026. Congratulations!

His research paper and presentation, created in Middle School history class, explores the connection between World War I and the Industrial Revolution.

“My project focuses on how new technologies developed for war were only possible because of the innovations of the industrial revolution, and how it caused an immense amount of destruction,” Wynston explained.

“I chose the topic because I have had an interest in World War I for many years, and wanted to learn more about it. I also harbor an interest in the industrial revolution, particularly the more nitty gritty details of how these machines produced components and devices, but also the logistics they enabled and the broader impact of the creation of industrial machinery.”

Six of our Middle School students advanced to regionals with their History Day projects this year, and this is at least the ninth consecutive year an MPA eighth-grader has qualified for the state competition, including a national qualifier.

We’re proud of this incredible tradition of curiosity, research, and academic excellence!
