Alumni Spotlight: Stephanie Mullings ’15 and Khobi Price ’15

Stephanie Mullings ’15 remembers clearly the first time she met her future husband, Khobi Price ’15, on a bus ride during orientation before their freshman year at Morgan Park Academy in 2011.

What began as an immediate, instinctive connection grew into a lasting friendship that has remained a constant through their years at MPA and well beyond. Now, they’re planning the rest of their lives together, having recently gotten engaged to be married as they build a new chapter of their lives in Southern California.

Stephanie is now at the University of Southern California, where she teaches while completing her Ph.D. in English Literature and Creative Writing. Focusing on fiction, she is currently working on a collection of short stories.

She previously earned a B.A. in Creative Writing and Literature from the University of Michigan, followed by a Master of Fine Arts from Boston University.

Reflecting on her time at MPA, Stephanie credits the school with introducing her to the humanities, and an education rooted in empathy, open-mindedness, and a commitment to lifelong learning. Experiences like Project Week helped spark her passion for travel and service, leading her to study abroad as an undergrad and later receive a global fellowship in grad school.

Khobi works as a journalist covering the Los Angeles Lakers and the NBA for the California Post. After graduating from Northern Illinois University, he covered the Orlando Magic for the Orlando Sentinel before moving to Los Angeles, initially joining the Lakers beat as a reporter for the Southern California News Group.

A lifelong athlete, Khobi played soccer, baseball, and basketball at MPA, where he developed a deep appreciation for teamwork and community — values that continue to shape his work. He remains committed to mentoring others and giving back, particularly through his involvement with the National Association of Black Journalists.

For both Stephanie and Khobi, athletics played a central role in their MPA experience and continue to connect them with former teammates and coaches, including Stephanie’s sister, Kaitlyn ’20.
