The Morgan Park Academy varsity boys soccer team opened the state playoffs on Oct. 7 with a 9-0 win over Unity Christian Academy in a Class 1A Chicago Christian regional quarterfinal.

The Warriors dominated the game behind 6 goals from sophomore David Perry.

However, for senior Andrew Cabrera and his teammates, this wasn’t just any win. It was the first time MPA competed in the state playoffs as a varsity team since the 2017 season.

“It means a lot,” Cabrera said. “We’ve had some good teams where we could have competed in the playoffs. As seniors, it feels like we’re being sent off on a good note and leaving our mark.”
