Second Grade Welcomes Poet Laureate for National Poetry Month


Second-graders have been learning about poetry during National Poetry Month this April, including a virtual visit from poet Karen Christensen. Christensen (a.k.a. Deborah’s grandmother) is the city of Aurora's poet laureate, the author of several collections of poetry and creative non-fiction, and the founder of the poetry group A-Town Poetics. Her poetry has been used for a number of public presentations, including National Poetry Month exhibits in collaboration with the Illinois State Poetry Society. Academic Challenge Team Places 3rd in State


Morgan Park Academy’s Academic Challenge team continued its 30-year history of top-level success with a third-place finish at the 2021 state finals, including four individual medals in math and engineering graphics. Competing in biology, chemistry, computer science, engineering graphics, English, math, and physics, 14 MPA students combined for 372.6 points, a total that measured up against not only their peers in the unboundaried Division 300, but many larger schools. Coach Pariso Announces Plans to Retire


Physical education teacher Lynda Pariso has announced that she plans to retire in June 2021 after 41 years at Morgan Park Academy, bringing to a close a teaching and coaching career that touched the lives of generations of children. A native of Northwest Indiana, Pariso joined the faculty in 1979, quickly establishing herself as an indispensable and indelible teacher and coach. Over the course of her career, she taught P.E. classes for all ages, led P.E. curriculum development, and coached several sports. Radio/Podcasting Class Uses New Tech to Create Old-Fashioned Fun


By Kyle Garmes The Beverly Review Morgan Park Academy (MPA) students are combining new-age technology with old-fashioned entertainment to provide senior citizens with smiles and laughter. As part of a radio/podcasting class, MPA students are teaming up with Make Grandma Smile, a Chicago therapy and technology organization, to create an old-fashioned radio show that will be sent to senior citizens around the city who are in assisted-living homes. Those seniors are also producing similar shows to be sent to MPA students. By Tim O’Brien The Beverly Review Morgan Park Academy's 2019 girls volleyball team won a Class 1A regional title with a roster dominated by athletes from the underclasses, meaning they would have got a chance for a big 2020 season in normal circumstances. Gregory Coleman ’91 will deliver the commencement address and Kenneth Mortenson ’63 will receive the Richard L. Eighth-Graders Qualify for History Fair State Finals


Morgan Park Academy’s annual eighth-grade history fair project produced not only a host of outstanding exhibits, but also six qualifiers for the state finals in Springfield. Kaylyn, Lauren, Oriah, Sophia, Walter, and Caitlin will represent MPA at the state level after being recognized by judges at the Chicago Metro History Fair regional competition. The six students joined classmates Teddy, Chase, Madison, and Anna at regionals after being selected as best in class by MPA faculty. Five alumni and four teams have been selected from a pool of dozens of nominees for election to Morgan Park Academy's Athletic Hall of Fame and will be inducted in ceremonies at Homecoming on September 25, 2021.
