Racing to a hot start to begin the season, the Morgan Park Academy girls basketball team rode the shoulders of leading scorer Amaya McLachlan.
Taking the mantle of the Warriors’ go-to scorer, the senior forward averaged 30-plus points through the first month of the season. As the season progressed, McLachlan continued her tear with her teammates finding a comfort zone and bigger roles offensively and defensively.
Unfortunately, MPA’s season came to an end with a tough 58-34 defeat to Chicago Richards on Feb. 7, 2019 in the Class-1A Illinois Lutheran Regional championship.
The Warriors finished 21-8, tying the program record for single-season wins set by the 2018 team.
“It’s hard to see the season come to an end without winning a regional championship,” said MPA Coach Tom Drahozal. “Looking at the big picture, though, and what we were able to do with just eight players, it’s hard to be anything but pleased with the season.”
