Morgan Park Academy’s Olivia Fitch and Sean Sutton were among a dozen local eighth-graders chosen to participate in the annual student leadership breakfast hosted at the Academy by Alderman Matt O’Shea, State Senator Bill Cunningham, and State Representative Fran Hurley on April 26, 2019.
Olivia and Sean were selected by Middle School faculty for this honor for not only filling traditional leadership roles in their class, but also leading by example as positive, enthusiastic contributors to the MPA community.
“Sean and Olivia have demonstrated positive leadership in their various roles as National Junior Honor Society members, House Leaders, and Student Council members,” said Middle School teacher Peggy Scolan, who oversees those student leadership groups. “They step up to take on tasks that others might leave undone because the task isn’t necessarily front and center.
“Sean and Olivia don’t volunteer for recognition or accolades. They volunteer because they have hearts for service here at school and in the wider community.”
After a welcome by the local representatives, the students worked in groups to debate several bills currently in the state legislature and present their positions to family, friends, and teachers in attendance.
