Senior forward Amaya McLachlan became the ninth player in the history of Morgan Park Academy’s varsity girls basketball program to score 1,000 career points, boosting her total to 1,001 with 33 points against Elgin Academy on Dec. 6, 2018.

McLachlan needed 32 points coming into the game, and passed the millennium mark on a layup in the fourth quarter of the Warriors’ 56-17 win, then came out of the game to cheers from coaches, teammates, and fans.

>> MCLACHLAN STEPS INTO NEW ROLE FOR WARRIORS

McLachlan, a four-year starter, has thrived in a spotlight role this season after previously serving as a multi-skilled complement to Isis Rodriguez, who graduated last school year as the program’s all-time leading scorer.

“Amaya has really picked up her game this season to pick up the slack on offense in the absence of Isis,” said Tom Drahozal, who recently earned his 450th win as MPA coach. “She’s an all-around player and has been an all-conference player, and also is a very unselfish team player who also distributes the ball very well to her teammates. I am very happy for and proud of Amaya for reaching this milestone.”
