Sixth-Grade TED Talks Showcase Innovative Ideas


Morgan Park Academy sixth-graders took center stage on March 8, presenting scientific research and innovative ideas in the style of TED Talks. The essence of the project was to creatively present one's research on one's general topic, real world application, and innovative idea. Students brainstormed ideas based on topics they had studied in class, including DNA, heredity, cell components, cellular respiration, photosynthesis, cell division, and more. MPA Students Speak Out Against Gun Violence, Remember Florida Shooting Victims


Morgan Park Academy students marked the National School Walkout on Wednesday, March 14, by gathering to protest gun violence and to remember those killed in last month's Florida school shooting. About 250 Upper School and Middle School students, faculty, and staff assembled in the campus quad, Jones Bowl, at 10:00 a.m. Many wore orange, which is associated with gun violence prevention, including T-shirts that MPA's Service Council created and sold to raise several hundred dollars for the non-profit organization Everytown for Gun Safety. MPA Seniors Chosen as National Merit Finalists


Morgan Park Academy seniors Katarina Stanley and David Valentine have been named 2018 National Merit Finalists after scoring in the top 1 percent of the 1.6 million students nationwide who took the Preliminary SAT/National Merit Scholarship Qualifying Test last year. The National Merit Scholarship Program is an academic competition for recognition and scholarships that began in 1955. At stake are merit scholarships worth more than $32 million that will be offered this spring.Through February, members of Morgan Park Academy's Class of 2018 have received more than $2 million in college scholarship offers. Student Dance Show Raises Thousands for Charity


Dozens of Morgan Park Academy students came together under the direction of senior Nate Nicholes and freshman Rachel Sheppard for our annual Dance for Life benefit show on March 2-3. The event raised more than $2,000 for Dance for Life, a charitable organization whose mission is to raise awareness and funds for HIV/AIDS care, education, and prevention, as well as other life-threatening diseases, while promoting the art of dance in Chicago. MPA students organize, coordinate, choreograph, promote, and produce their own show to support the organization. This is the 16th year of the student-run dance show. Basketball Banquet Celebrates Season’s Standouts


Senior standouts Brent McKnight and Isis Rodriguez took home team MVP awards as we honored the best of the MPA winter sports season with awards banquets for varsity and middle school basketball on Feb. 26. Isis ended her high school career with 1,705 career points, including 569 this season — setting new program records with both marks — en route to becoming MPA’s first All-State player in seven years. Math Team Shines at Regionals


Morgan Park Academy’s math team shined at the Illinois Council of Teachers of Mathematics (ICTM) regional competition, bringing home an armful of ribbons and medals home from Saint Xavier University on Feb. 24, 2018.
