MPA’s varsity boys tennis team closed the spring with a strong postseason performance, with four players qualifying for IHSA Class 1A sectionals and freshman D.J. Fletcher placing among the top 32 players at the state singles finals.

Playing at No. 1 singles for the Warriors despite his youth, the 6-foot-1 Fletcher won his first-round matchup in the state tournament on May 25, 2017, at Hersey High School in Arlington Heights before stalling in the second round of the double-elimination format.

MPA’s boys and girls tennis programs have sent four singles players and a doubles team to the state finals in the past three years.

Fletcher placed third at sectionals last week, where he was joined by MPA’s No. 2 singles player, senior Vincent Oganwu, and the doubles team of juniors Theo Covello and Diego Gomez.
