Morgan Park Academy’s WYSE (Worldwide Youth in Science and Engineering) team began its postseason push with a dominant performance, finishing first in Division 300 by a wide margin in the regional tournament at the University of St. Francis in Joliet on Feb. 13.

Teaming up to advance to next month’s sectional round were Divya Avula, Shreya Chandra, Khalil Clay, Madison Delaney, Jeffrey Eichinger, Berat Gulecyuz, Ahad Hashmi, Daniel Jesuthasan, Hiba Katerji, Arej Kazi, Alana Lay-Phillips, Augustine Liu, Tayler Malecki, Savi Rathi, Daevin Salwan, Amar Shabeeb, Pramukh Sreerama, Bella Tillman, Maria Ulayyet, and Frank Zhang.

Competing in biology, chemistry, computer science, engineering graphics, English, math, and physics, MPA captured 13 of the 14 first- and second-place spots in Division 300.

Jeffrey, a freshman on MPA’s state championship WYSE team three years ago, not only won the division in both computer science and engineering graphics, but also ranked third and fourth, respectively, in those subjects compared to dozens of students in Division 700 and Division 1500.
