Sixth-graders India Lopez and Devin Otto rode their outstanding Chicago Metro History Fair projects all the way to Springfield, advancing to the State Expo at the Prairie Convention Center this month.
MPA sixth-graders participate each year in this popular and challenging competition, researching and presenting their first long-form research project. The three-part project is an important lesson in learning to manage the process of large assignments. Besides creating their museum-like exhibits, students completed summary statements and annotated bibliographies.
India’s project on “The C.O.R.E. of Chicago’s Civil Rights Movement” and Devin’s project on “Ellis S. Chesbrough: Eminent Engineer of Excrement Elimination” were among four selected by our faculty to represent MPA at the regional competition at Lane Tech last month.
