Morgan Park Academy students concluded Black History Month with a celebration of African-American and African history and culture from the 18th century to the modern day on Feb. 26.

Through song and dance, poetry and presentations, MPA students of all ages honored heads of state, entrepreneurs, political activists, writers and poets, lawyers and judges, historians, athletes, and entertainers.

Organized by senior Lauren Adams and junior Justus Pugh, the event celebrated Maya Angelou, Beyonce, Ruby Bridges, Gwendolyn Brooks, Common, Angela Davis, Frederick Douglass, W.E.B. DuBois, Olaudah Equiano, Marcus Garvey, Langston Hughes, Martin Luther King Jr., John Legend, Malcolm X, Thurgood Marshall, Rosa Parks, Rihanna, Paul Robeson, Haile Selassie, Nina Simone, Harriet Tubman, Madam C.J. Walker, Booker T. Washington, Harold Washington, Serena and Venus Williams, and the Five Stairsteps.
