Spreading Holiday Cheer Through Service


Middle School students have been busy spreading holiday cheer this month through several service initiatives on campus and in our local community! Visiting Smith Village retirement community to sing carols and chat with residents Collecting hats, scarves, mittens, gloves, and blankets for donation to the South Suburban Family Shelter Making cards and ornaments for hospitalized children and Smith Village residents Donating gifts for local children through the Salvation Army's Angel Tree program Thank you to all the students, families, faculty, and staff who helped make these initiatives so successful!

Used in a responsible way, social networking can have tremendous benefits for teenagers and adults like. But the potential drawbacks of careless, irresponsible, or reckless use are very real. Morgan Park Academy teachers in the Upper School discuss this during classes and advisory meetings. Running for Office in Government Class (VIDEOS)


Upper School students in Mr. Novack's American Government class closed the semester by building and running political campaigns in a presidential and vice-presidential election. They started by crafting individual political platforms based on their own solutions to seven important issues facing the United States today (taxes, healthcare, the economy, individual rights, education, national defense, the environment) and one additional topic of their own choosing (e.g., immigration, terrorism, the minimum wage). Students then teamed up with partners to hammer out a compromise platform for a two-person presidential ticket, created campaign ads, and gave stump speeches outlining their platforms for America. 11 Seniors Named Illinois State Scholars


Morgan Park Academy seniors Analiese Batchelor, Adam Cvik, Jeffrey Eichinger, Nadia Jesuthasan, Jayneal Jimenez, Azam Khan, Adil Mian, Isabella Mourgelas, Amber Payne, Nina Rathi, and Analiese Sori have been recognized for outstanding academic achievement, named 2015-16 State Scholarsby the Illinois Student Assistance Commission. Illinois State Scholars represent approximately the top ten percent of high school seniors, hailing from 671 different high schools across the state. Selection is based on SAT, ACT or Prairie State Achievement Exam scores, and/or class rank at the end of the junior year. High school guidance counselors work with ISAC to determine the winners. MPA Sophomore Cast in Ballet Chicago’s Production of The Nutcracker


Celeste Phengpumipanit will be performing in Ballet Chicago’s production of The Nutcracker at the Athenaeum Theatre in December. A sophomore at Morgan Park Academy, Celeste has been dancing ballet for six years. She has been a student with Ballet Chicago for the past two years and is in Level 5, Professional Division. Ballet Chicago produces two full productions each year: The Nutcracker and another show in the spring.
