The Inaugural Class of the Alumni Athletic Walk of Fame

The Academy will reveal its new Athletic Walk of Fame during Reunion Weekend, eleven individuals and three teams will be inducted as inaugural members. The induction ceremony take place on Saturday, September 25.

The Athletic Walk of Fame is a permanent tribute honoring the school’s great student athletes and teams throughout the Academy’s long history,” said Dr. Catherine Raaflaub, Head of School. “Not only will we celebrate the outstanding achievements of these men and women, but we also hope to inspire today’s students to pursue the same excellence.” The Academy plans to induct a new class of members each year.

The Walk of Fame will recognize and honor athletes and teams from the Academy, as well as its former boarding schools, Morgan Park Military Academy and the Loring School for Girls who represent the Academy’s longstanding athletic excellence.

The Athletic Walk of Fame induction ceremony will coincide with the school’s Walk of Fame reveal and the unveiling the “Building on Tradition” capital campaign donor wall; an installation that will recognize the individuals who are the foundation of the school’s philanthropic support. This will happen at 3:00 p.m. in the athletic complex.

The names of the inductees will be etched in brick and displayed on a wall that stands adjacent to a new common area being built outside the gymnasium.

To ensure that Walk of Famers represent the full athletic life of the school’s history, candidates must meet certain criteria, including having graduated at least 10 years ago; holding championships or records; being recognized at the city, regional or state level; among other criteria. This year’s inductees include:

1947-1948 Football

The 1947-48 team was undefeated in eight games with a combined point total of 150 versus 19 for opponents. This success is even more impressive when one considers the fact that three of the team's key starters from the previous season (record of 7-1) were injured and missed the season. This is one of four undefeated football teams in the Academy’s history. A number of players received post-season honors and played collegiate football.
