Global Scholars

Global Scholars is a new leadership program that emphasizes cultural education and exchange, service, and environmental sustainability. The program applies a global lens to curricular and extracurricular activities, allowing students to increase their participation in activities to become Global Learners in Lower School, to Global Explorers in Middle School, and graduating with the Global Leader designation.

The Global Scholars program integrates the diversity of our school community—socioeconomic, racial, and ethnic—into a program where these differences are respected, explored, and celebrated.

Students accumulate courses and experiences into a global portfolio that includes community service, language and cultural experiences, and environmental sustainability, all of which are assets for 21st century learners. Most importantly, the program encourages empathy and understanding. In the Lower School students study other cultures through literature and in social studies. In the Middle School they continue to study and add exchanges. Project week offers many opportunities to serve the community, learn about other cultures and the environment. In addition, 9th Graders engage in an overnight Heifer International experience where they learn about the global struggle for food; throughout the year students have the opportunity to travel to hear local speaker and attend events. Global Leaders also have the opportunity to join our service club ACT, participate in Model U.N. and work to create positive change within the school.

The Global Scholars Program not only recognizes MPA students as Global Leaders but gives students the opportunity to achieve an even higher level of recognition through a Diplomat or Ambassador diploma, in which they choose a specific pillar to focus on and pursue independent projects, trips and service. Ambassadors also complete a capstone project.
