Morgan Park Academy coach Tom Drahozal was named Region 3 Girls' Basketball Coach of the Year, the third time in four years he has been so honored by the Illinois Basketball Coaches Association.
The Academy's varsity girls' basketball team won its fifth regional championship in six years this season and reached the IHSA Class 1A sectional finals for the first time in school history.
Led by All-ISL selections Brianna Kramer, Isabelle Panozzo, and Gabrielle Ogbevire, the team finished with a 19-9 record, including Drahozal's 350th career win as girls' basketball coach.
"I am indebted to the efforts and support of my assistant coaches, Bart Kramer and Francie Kozacik, along with all of the players on the team," Drahozal said. "Without their support I would not be recognized with honors like this."
Now in his 26th year at the Academy, Drahozal also serves as Dean of Upper School, teaches world history and American government, and coaches the varsity baseball team. He was inducted into the school's Athletic Walk of Fame in 2011.
