Events and Volunteer Opportunities
Lower School Room Parents and Coordinator– Entire School Year
Room parents are responsible for organizing grade-specific events such as class parties. Room parents work closely with the homeroom teachers, deans and all-school coordinator to prepare various events, which include the Halloween and Valentine’s Day parties. One room parent is needed per class.
Middle School and Upper School Coordinators are responsible for organizing class parties. Coordinators work closely with the advisors, deans and the all-school coordinator. Events include the Halloween and Valentine’s Day parties. One coordinator is needed per division.

Opening Day Coffee - Tuesday, September 4th
All parents are invited for complimentary coffee and danishes as the Head of School and President of the Parents Association welcome the community. Information about Parents Association events are presented, volunteer sign-ups are available and school merchandise is for sale. The Opening Day Coffee is organized by the Parents Association Executive Committee.

Back-to-School Picnic - Sunday, September 9th
The Back-to-School Picnic is on the first Sunday after opening week. A bounce house, games and other activities are organized for all students. It’s a great way to meet other families while enjoying a delicious picnic provided by the Parents Association. The event is free of charge and volunteers are needed to man the grill and supervise the bounce house. Chair: Chuck Lay

Homecoming - Saturday, September 22nd
This is one of the most exciting events of the year. On Friday, Upper School students decorate cars and parade around the neighborhood. On Saturday, the day starts with a pancake breakfast in the dining hall. While many students participate in athletics games, children of all ages can play at the carnival. The Parents Association organizes the pancake breakfast, BBQ and carnival.

Annual Giving Fund Captains – September to November
AGF Captains are responsible for raising awareness of the Annual Giving Fund Gala by sending emails and communicating with fellow parents at their grade level. The Academy’s goal is to reach 100% participation in all grades.

The Academy’s Got Talent Committee – December to April
The Parents Association is partnering with the Advancement office to organize the most fun talent show fundraiser ever. Gathering silent and live auction items, decorating baskets, helping with database input and catalog creation, marketing the event -- there is something for everyone. The event itself will be on Friday, April 26.

Cookie Dough Fundraisers – End of September to Mid-October
Who doesn’t like cookies? Volunteers help sell cookie dough to raise money to fund the various events hosted by the Parents Association. Order forms are sent out in late September or early October. Orders are distributed in mid-October. We need volunteers to help with the promotion and distribution of the cookie dough. Chair: Barb Arnold
Halloween Celebration – Friday, October 26th
Each division has different age-appropriate activities and parties. In coordination with the division deans, Room Parents and volunteers help organize and coordinate this fun day.
Gym Nights - Friday, October 19th, Friday, February 22nd and Friday, May 17th
Two nights of the year the gym is open for students and parents to play and have fun. Food and refreshments are offered.
Book Fair and Holiday Shop – Week of December 3rd
Books are for sale in the Arts Center gallery. Students come during class time to shop for books. This is a good place to start your holiday shopping. We need volunteers to organize the event and man the cash register. Chair: Joelle Paris
Holiday Class Parties - Thursday, December 20th
Homerooms and divisions organize parties celebrating the holidays.
Father-Daughter Dance - Saturday, February 2nd
Fathers and daughters enjoy a fun evening dance at Alumni Hall. Girls come dressed up and ready to have a fun time with their friends and dads. Volunteers are needed to assist with various activities. Chair: Sharon Bryant
Skating Party - Sunday, January 13th
All parents, students and friends are invited to this fun weekend afternoon. Pizza and refreshments are available. Volunteers are needed to organize the event.
Pi Day - Thursday, March 14th
Pi Day is about math and pies! Parents are asked to bake or purchase pies and bring them to campus. Volunteers help with setting up the dining hall, cutting the pies and serving them to students during the lunch hours.
International Day - Thursday, April 4th
International Day is the culmination of a series of curricular activities that are part of the Global Scholars program. The Parents Association organizes a special international lunch. Parents from all grade levels bring food from all around the world. Many parents choose to represent their country of origin or cultural heritage. Volunteers help collect the food at morning drop-off, set up the dining hall, organize the food and serve it to students and teachers during the lunch hours.
Art Curator – April and May
The art curator is responsible, in collaboration with the art teachers, for framing and selecting the art pieces that will be nominated for our annual student art awards.
Mother-Son Formal - Saturday, May 4th
Food and refreshments make for a fun afternoon for sons and moms. Volunteers are needed to organize the event.
Academy Day - Friday, May 24th
Hot dog eating, face painting, rock climbing, hamster-balling, football throwing, dunk tanking, obstacle course racing, or just hanging around with friends – Academy Day is a fun event for all!
Senior Picnic - Friday, May 24th
Senior parents and volunteers organize a picnic lunch for our graduating class. The Senior Picnic traditionally takes place on Academy Day.
Blast-Off Party – June 4th
This end-of-the-year party is for all Lower School and Middle School students. Parents are invited to join the fun. Various carnival activities are organized and students compete for prizes by house. With ice cream and popcorn for all, it is a memorable day to celebrate the end of the school year.
