Sustainability
When Morgan Park Academy students
learn about sustainability, they learn to make a positive difference in the
world. The sustainability program is a new program that addresses issues that
have been confronted for many years already. What started with a recycling
program and a challenge to reduce and reuse has transitioned into a discipline
in its own right. With guidance from the director of sustainability, teachers
are working to integrate sustainability goals into the curriculum, and ensure
that students learn about the impact we all have on our shared world.
Composting programs and a campus
garden are breeding grounds for change and learning. Students develop toolkits
that they can use when they become problem-solvers on a global scale.
Sustainability efforts don’t end in the classroom
as an institution, we are constantly
looking for ways to tread lightly, from retrofitting old buildings to
school-wide efforts that keep sustainability issues top-of-mind.
